Sega Confirms Sonic the Hedgehog Voice Actor Has Left Role
Sega has confirmed that the voice actor for Sonic the Hedgehog, Roger Craig Smith, has left the role. Speculation began yesterday when Smith sent out a tweet maxim, "Welp, 10 years was an amazing run. Onward to new zones! Much love to the fans who've been so kind. It's been an honor." The tweet independent a hedgehog emoji and an epitome of a blue broken center, but never outright said he'd left.
The suspicions were then later on confirmed past Sega, even so, who, from the official Sonic Twitter account, tweeted:
"For over 10 years, Roger Craig Smith has been an integral part of the SEGA family. He brought the voice of Sonic to life, and nosotros are forever grateful for his never-ending enthusiasm in helping the community and spreading joy. Thanks, Roger, for all you've done for Sonic."
As he alluded to in his Tweet, Smith had been voicing Sega mascot for ten years. His showtime roles were Sonic Free Riders on the Xbox 360 and Sonic Colors that came to the Wii and DS. Since and then, Smith has voiced the bluish hedgehog in every game, including Sonic Forces and the Super Boom Bros serial.
Roger Craig Smith is not but known for voicing the iconic hedgehog. The vocalization actor has had a major role in the Assasin'due south Creed franchise, playing Ezio, alongside voicing Batman in Batman: Arkham Origins and Mirage in Noon Legends. He also played Daigo Dojima in the recently released Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Smith also had a number of roles in TV, film and anime.
The only time Roger Craig Smith hasn't voiced Sonic recently is in the live-action movies. That role instead went to Ben Schwartz. Schwartz got the office for the 2022 pic and is set to reprise his role for the upcoming sequel.
Equally a side note, in Japanese, Junichi Kanemaru voices the gotta get fast hedgehog since Sonic Take chances in 1998.
